Welcome to the UK Metadata Editor (MDE) - part of the UK Location Infrastructure (UK LI). The MDE is designed to assist in the creation, management and publication of standards compliant geospatial metadata. Specifically, it provides the ability for users to create and publish metadata that conforms to the UK Location Infrastructure profile of GEMINI2 and meets the requirements for INSPIRE publishing.
New users should Register for a free account using the form opposite.
If you are unfamiliar with geospatial metadata, UK LI or INSPIRE, please consult our extensive help and guidance materials. For those already familiar with these topics note that in contrast to the old UK Location Editor, users are able to store their records online and publish these through data.gov.uk without any need to manage local copies of their records. This is done via the automatic creation of an organisation specific Web Accessible Folder (WAF). However, for users wishing to publish via their own WAF or Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW), records created through the Editor can still be downloaded and managed in-house as before.
Please note that there is an ongoing issue with data.gov.uk that means at this time users are unable to publish or download records.
The ability to create/edit and validate records through the service remains unaffected.
We are working with data.gov.uk to remedy this situation as soon as we can.
